How to Overcome Single Mom Stress
Create a Budget
FInancial issues are the number one stress causer of single moms. It’s not easy trying to live on one adult income, even if you get child support from your kids’ father. It’s important that you work to evaluate your income and expenses to create a budget that you’ll stick to no matter what the kids want, you want or anything else. Having a budget helps you to plan your money wisely and reduce the financial stress that arises when you’re a single mom.
Create a Solid Routine
While you may be a spontaneous person by nature, when it comes to being a single mom it’s important that you develop a solid day to day routine. This will help keep the kids on track, without minimal outbursts or meltdowns, as well as ensure that you get everything done in the day When your entire household understands the routine, you won’t have to nag incessantly or run around the home checking if the kids did what they’re supposed to do.
Embrace Minimalism
While you don’t have to go all out and become a minimalist, it’s important that you learn to be content with less in your life. You do not have to feel bad for saying no to buying the next best video game console or the latest, greatest book at the bookstore for your book worm child. It’s important that you learn to embrace a minimalist type lifestyle to reduce single mom stress.
Find a Support Group
This doesn’t mean that you go out and attend weekly meetings for a single mom support group. Finding a support group can be as simple as finding that trustworthy group of friends or family members who’ll always be there, without judgement, to help you during times of high stress. This keeps you from venting to your kids about adult things and allows you to socialize with adults from time to time too.
Go to the Doctor
Be sure that you keep up with your own health by visiting your doctor annually or as often as necessary. Single moms tend to make sure their kids appointments are scheduled but neglect to make the necessary health appointments for their own body.
